How to Choose the Right Walking Boots
- Boot height — low cut for easy day hikes, mid cut for most UK walking, high cut for heavy loads and technical ground.
- Waterproofing — Gore-Tex lined is the right call for British weather; non-waterproof only for warm, dry days.
- Sole stiffness — flexible for easy paths, semi-stiff for mixed terrain, stiff for rocky mountain routes.
- Fit — snug but never tight; a thumb’s width at the toes, firm heel, and try them on in the afternoon.
